Ok. This might seem a little awkward, but there are some times when nothing seems to work properly. In my case, Adobe’s Creative Suite 3.

My problem

Was that with Adobe CS3 installed and working I ran Adobe Photoshop CS4 Portable. When I first open the Photoshop CS4 .exe file I received an error stating that Photoshop (PS) cannot find the Color Settings. I closed (also ignored) the error message and PS CS4 Portable was working just fine.

I must say that PS CS4 Portable was a trial version (no serial number was provided). I just wanted to TRY the product.

On the day after I tried to open PS CS3 (full version) and received the error regarding the Color Settings, I chose not to ignore the error and go to the actual location to see if the folder is actually present or has been somehow deleted. The folder along with the color settings were there alright. The location is: “C:\Documents and Settings\YOUR_USERNAME\Application Data\Adobe\Color\Settings”.

After navigating to Color Settings location, when I opened up PS CS3 again I didn’t receive the error. BUT… whenever I tried to open or create a file (via File -> Open or File -> New) I received a warning message stating that PS cannot find the Version Cue .dll file from: “C:\Program Files\Common Files\Adobe\Adobe Version Cue CS3\Client\3.0.0\”. After closing/confirming the message PS simply crashed. And the same thing happened whenever I tried to open or create a file. In other words my precious PS CS3 was useless.

So, like I did before I tried to find the bloody folder only that this time the Version Cue folder wasn’t there!?

I Googled the problem a bit and found out that I should update the Version Cue client in order to get rid of the problem, my problem :D

I never tried this solution because there was no point in doing that since Version Cue folder was no longer present on my computer.

Remove the software via Control Panel -> Add/Remove. In case of failure re-install the application then try to remove it via Add/Remove.

I’ve had installed on my PC the entire Adobe Master Collection Creative Suite 3. This means that I could’ve tried to repair the installation before uninstalling.

Well it wasn’t so easy. In fact it wasn’t possible at all. I tried to remove the CS3 via Add/Remove, but there was no way I could open that utility.

Since I could not remove the software suite via Control Panel - Add/Remove I figured out that if I try to re-install the suite I should be able to remove it.

Surprise! I couldn’t re-install it either. :(

I let this one last because it requires a small amount of self-confidence in computer knowledge, personal computer knowledge.

So.. the solution is quite simple and painless if the correct precautions are taken.

WARNING!

Before you try this you should back up your personal files. I suggest making an image of the entire System partition (”C:” partition) using Norton Ghost or Acronis True Image.

After taking the necessary precautions you should proceed to remove the Adobe CS3 via AdobeCS3 Clean Script. You can download it from here.

This is a simple executable file which, once opened brings up the System Console and after a long and boring questioning session you succeed in removing the bloody CS3 from your computer. You have two choices (levels) which I find very useful:

  • 1. Remove every Adobe Component and only leave the Acrobat Reader.
  • 2. Remove the entire Adobe Suite and Acrobat.

I chose 1. And it worked!

Finally! Now that I managed to remove the Adobe CS3 from my PC I don’t know if I would ever install CS3. I’m thinking to take a step further and use the fresh out of the kitchen Adobe CS4.

I hope I made my self useful with these tips.
